A national study has found two-thirds of Australian teenagers have been involved in a romantic relationship by the age of years. The study Growing Up In Australia Longitudinal Study of Australian Children found while the majority of children reported having had at least one boyfriend or girlfriend by the age of , only a minority 32 per cent reported having had sex. The sexualisation of young Australian children is being labelled a national crisis, with top experts saying the increasing exposure of girls and boys to pornography should be a Federal election issue. It comes after revelations that a year-old Perth girl gave birth to a baby last month made headlines across the country. Lead researcher, Edith Cowan University Professor Lelia Green, said pornography and sexual content in advertising and pop culture had become pervasive. Sexting, sexual language and the sharing of illicit images or videos had become common, she said. It had the potential to make it harder for young people to establish respectful relationships and could lead to unhealthy, unrealistic views about sex.
